Claiming from the classroom
03/12/2022
Today, 3 December, is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The students of the University of Burgos' own Degree of University Expert in Adaptive Skills, academic year 2022-2023 have prepared and read a manifesto on the occasion of the International and European Day of Persons with Disabilities.
These 15 young people, aged between 18 and 29, have claimed the four rights they consider most important and necessary right now: education, health, independent living and work.
The manifesto has been elaborated in the framework of the subject "Rights, Community and Active Citizenship".
The main objective of the Expert Degree in Adaptive Skills for Young People with Intellectual Disabilities is to include people with intellectual disabilities in a global university environment that facilitates the sharing of training experiences, socialisation, learning and growth spaces and leisure activities between students with and without disabilities, which is a mutual enrichment.
The course aims to provide students with tools to improve their autonomy, humanistic preparation and work readiness. As well as to promote a more positive social image of the group of people with intellectual disabilities and the acceptance of their role as active citizens.
The Expert Course is part of the collaboration between the University of Burgos and the social entities in the field of intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities in Burgos. This is the sixth edition of the course, and the University of Burgos is one of the first universities in Spain to welcome students with intellectual disabilities.
This course is coordinated by University of Burgos lecturers Raquel de la Fuente Anuncibay and José Luis Cuesta, and is developed thanks to the support of the ONCE Foundation with funds from the European Social Fund, and the collaboration of various social organisations that support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Burgos and its province.
