The aim of the award is to highlight projects, individuals or organisations that are doing outstanding work for the well-being and development of Europe as a whole.

The European project "Training University Teachers for the inclusion of people with Intellectual Disabilities" (TUT4IND), coordinated by the University of Burgos, has been chosen as one of the five finalists in the "Star of Europe" competition. This annual competition, based in Belgium, aims to publicise projects, people or organisations that are doing outstanding work for the welfare and development of Europe as a whole.

The educational inclusion in the university environment and the development of the necessary tools that favour the competences of Higher Education professionals, in order to adapt to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities, is the aim of this project integrating a large international multidisciplinary team of professionals, including European universities and specific entities of socio-educational inclusion.

The aim of TUT4IND is to promote the creation of higher education courses open to the participation of people with intellectual disabilities and to contribute to the construction of inclusive higher education systems through the development of a specific programme where skills and competences will be the basis of learning.

In addition, this project promotes the participation of people with intellectual disabilities in mainstream courses in higher education institutions, which is currently limited in many European countries, opening up their possibilities to access the labour market.

The project will end its work in August 2022 and the training course will be available free of charge to anyone interested from that date onwards.
